Community Ministry Faithful Landlord Report November 2005
This quarter we have 5 new families receiving your support
to help them move on their path to self-sufficiency. We award this subsidy based on need and
accomplishment for a 3 month time frame and re-assess quarterly to see if they
are still the most needy of our clients.
JB- is a single
mother of one child. Prior to coming to
our program, she was living with her abusive mother. She is employed as an administrative
assistant and was recently given a raise and promotion. Ms. B has struggled with her finances,
particularly because her child support checks recently stopped coming and she
has an older car that keeps breaking down.
Ms. B is in the process of pursuing legal options to re-instate her
child support payments. She hopes to
clean up her credit problems and continue paying bills on time. Ms. B has been very open to receiving
assistance and utilizes the local food resources in the area. With her continued dedication and commitment,
we have no doubt Ms. B will succeed.
AJ- works full time
with children with autism, but because her employer is unreliable in payroll,
she recently has gotten a part time job at a local supermarket. Ms. J is a hard-worker who has always held at
least two jobs, but because of some issues with depression and low self-esteem,
she has been unable to command high wage earning jobs. She is currently pursuing leads at local
social service agencies, in the hopes of working with families with children
with disabilities. Ms. J has one year
left to complete her master’s degree in professional counseling, but has been
on a hiatus from school in order to clean up her credit problems and get
stable. She has been making good
progress toward her goals of paying off her debt as well as participating in
our Women’s Group and we expect to see her graduate in the next 6 months to one
year.
TB- is a single
mother raising a newborn child. The
father of her child is working in another state and has decided to remain where
he is. He has not provided any support
to the family, so she is seeking child support through the court system. Ms. B works as a billing specialist for a
medical office. Since her arrival into
our program, she has been working on the goals of correcting her credit
problems, moving forward with her dream of working in fashion design and
raising her child in a safe and stable environment.
TJM- She
and her husband and their 3 children were living on the street when they
entered our program. This past quarter,
Mr. M has left the family, leaving Mrs. JM to raise the children herself. She currently works as an administrative
assistant at a vocational high school for children with disabilities. Her children suffer from some mental and
physical health disabilities that Mrs. JM has been pursuing treatment for. Her immediate goals are to stabilize her
families’ financial and medical needs.
EW- is a new client as of July 2005. She is a single mother of two children who
works as a teacher’s assistant for Fairfax County Public Schools. She loves working with children and dreams of
the day she will be a full time certified teacher. Ms.W had trouble finding a place on her own
because of her credit history and an eviction in her past. After several months of staying with her
mother and friends, she was accepted into our program. Ms. W is a very motivated young lady who has
set the goals of paying off her debts and cleaning up her credit problems,
taking courses to become a teacher, and raising her children in a safe and
stable environment.
