Individuals or Churches Volunteer to Assist with Public Education and Advocacy

Community Ministry educates and advocates to public officials and community organizations on behalf of those low income and vulnerable families and individuals who need a voice. To that end it takes positions on what it considers to be issues of conscience, works with like-minded groups and enlists community support on these issues. Recent examples are: urging the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors not to make further cuts in the county budget for human services programs and to support the development of an assisted living complex (Chesterbrook Residences) in McLean and to support changes in the county's affordable dwelling unit ordinance to make it applicable to mid-rise apartment units. Persons who have an interest, or expertise, in these kinds of issues are needed to do research, draft position statements and letters, act as liaisons with other county organizations, speak before faith community groups or appear before public decision-making bodies as issues arise.
